AEO for healthcare: help AI assistants describe your practice accurately

People now ask AI assistants where to go for care. We optimize the public information those assistants rely on, for clinics, dental practices and healthcare groups. No patient data, no medical claims.

  • No patient data needed
  • Clinical content from your practitioners
  • Nothing published without approval

In short

AEO for healthcare is the work of making a practice easy for AI assistants to describe accurately and recommend with confidence. SEO competes for a position in a list of links. AEO competes to be named inside the answer itself. For clinics, dental and physiotherapy practices and specialist groups, that means getting the public facts right and consistent: your site, your practitioners, your profile, your reviews and the listings AI models cite. You will also hear it called AI SEO for healthcare, or AI SEO for dentists.

An honest note

AI assistants are careful with health questions

Patients ask things like the examples below. Health is a sensitive area, so assistants tend to be cautious, and that changes what matters.

What an answer can look like

A patient asks, the assistant names a few practices

AI assistant
Illustrative example

Which dentist near me is taking new patients and offers evening appointments?

Riverside Dental Practice lists evening appointments on weekdays and says it is taking new patients. Its website names its dentists and their registration details, and its Google Business Profile shows the same hours.

Availability changes, so confirm with the practice before you book.

This is general information, not medical advice.

Patients ask like this

Plain-language questions with real constraints

Examples of the kind of question we write queries around.

  • “Which dentist near me is taking new patients and offers evening appointments?”

  • “Physiotherapy clinic in Leeds that treats sports injuries”

  • “Private specialist clinic near me with step-free access and parking”

  • “What should I look for when choosing a private clinic?”

Accuracy matters more

Opening hours, services, locations and who treats what need to be right and the same everywhere. A model that finds conflicting facts has little reason to take the risk of naming you.

Credentials matter more

Practitioner names, qualifications, registration details and professional memberships help an assistant, and Google, judge whether a practice can be trusted. They have to be real, current and attached to the right people.

Consistency matters more

Your site, your Google Business Profile and the directories and professional listings that mention you should tell the same story. Inconsistency is a visibility problem and a trust problem.

Practice marketing must also follow the rules of the relevant regulator, which differ by country and profession. Check what applies to you with your regulator or a qualified advisor. This page is general information, not legal advice, and nothing on it is medical advice.

Where answers come from

What AI models draw on to describe a practice

Everything here is public. Models weigh whether the same facts appear in more than one place, so a claim that lives only on your own site is a weak claim.

The AI answer

Names your practice, or does not

  • Your website and service pages

Treatments and services, locations, fees where you publish them, opening hours and how to book, written so each answer can be lifted whole.

  • Practitioner profiles

Who your clinicians are, their qualifications and registration, and what they focus on, on pages that name them properly.

  • Structured data

Markup that states facts plainly to a machine: practice, practitioners, services, locations and hours, instead of leaving them to be inferred.

  • Google Business Profile

A Google-verified fact sheet: categories, services, hours, attributes, photos and the questions and answers section.

  • Reviews

Volume, recency and what patients say in their own words. A visibility input as well as a reputation one.

  • Third-party listings

Healthcare directories, insurer and network listings, professional body directories and local listings that AI models cite.

What we optimize

Six areas, all of them public information

The same levers as every AEO engagement, applied with the care a health practice needs. SEO is the foundation underneath.

Practice and practitioner entities

We make it unambiguous what you are (a dental practice, a physiotherapy clinic, a specialist consulting group), where you operate and who works there.

Service pages built to be quoted

Each service gets a page that answers the questions people ask in plain language, with the clinical content written or approved by your practitioners.

Structured data and credentials

Schema for the practice, its locations, services, hours and practitioners, kept in step with what is actually true today.

Google Business Profile

Categories, services, attributes, hours, service details and Q&A built out properly, and name, address and phone details made consistent everywhere.

Reviews and how you reply

We help you set a consistent, compliant way to ask for reviews and a reply approach that never confirms or discusses someone’s care in public.

Listings and corroboration

Consistent details across the third-party listings and directories AI models cite, and independent mentions that confirm what your own site says.

What we do not do

  • Write or give medical or clinical advice, or make medical claims for you
  • Promise patient outcomes, patient numbers or a recommendation from any AI assistant
  • Touch patient records, booking systems or any patient data
  • Contact your patients, or write, buy or incentivize reviews

Measurement

How we measure where you stand

We use the same audit method as our published research and our free checker, so you can see the method before you buy.

The method

Live queries with your name left out

  1. 1

    Read your homepage

Classify what you do in the words a patient would use.

  2. 2

    Write five queries

Buyer-intent queries: local, category, problem-first and comparison.

  3. 3

Run each as a live AI search

Your name is left out of every query.

  4. 4

    Record what came back

Whether you were named, who was named instead and which sources were cited.

Try it on your own practice with the free AI visibility checker, and read the AI visibility research for each method and its limits.

Findings from other sectors

We have not audited healthcare

Healthcare and dental practices are not among the businesses we have audited, so we publish no healthcare figures and make no claim about how AI treats your sector.

Planning estimates

Three phases over about five months

  1. 1

    Months 1 to 2

    Foundation and first movement

Technical floor fixed, practice and practitioner entities built, listings cleaned up and the first pages approved. Early movement in AI answers tends to show around month two, once the work has been crawled.

  2. 2

    Months 3 to 4

    Coverage and corroboration

Service content expands across the questions people ask, and third-party details are brought into line with your own site.

  3. 3

    Months 4 to 5

    Measured against your baseline

We compare AI answers and inquiry sources with where you started. These are planning estimates, not guarantees, and timing depends on your site, specialty and area.

Who it is for

Built for established practices and groups

It suits practices that want to be described accurately wherever people ask. If you are not sure, the free checker shows where you stand first.

A good fit

  • Private clinics, dental practices, physiotherapy and specialist practices
  • Multi-site healthcare groups that need one consistent story across locations
  • Practices whose practitioners can review and approve what is published
  • Teams who want an honest view of where they stand in AI answers first

Not the right fit

  • Anyone wanting medical claims or clinical advice written for them
  • Anyone wanting guaranteed patient volumes or a guaranteed recommendation
  • Work that needs access to patient data or clinical systems

If AEO is not right for your practice, we say so on the first call. If you also want to reach accounts, such as employers or corporate partners, our B2B lead generation services are the outbound lane.

Common questions

AEO for healthcare, answered

What is AEO for healthcare?+
AEO, answer engine optimization, is the work of making a business easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI to describe accurately and recommend. For healthcare practices that means optimizing public information: your website and service pages, practitioner profiles, Google Business Profile, reviews, structured data and the third-party listings AI models cite. It is closely related to SEO, and the same foundations support both. It is not medical advice or patient-facing clinical content.
Do you make medical claims or write clinical content?+
No. We do not write or give medical or clinical advice and we do not make medical claims for a practice. Where a page states clinical facts, such as what a treatment involves, your practitioners write or approve it. We structure, organize and optimize what you publish, and nothing goes live without your approval.
Do you handle patient data?+
No. We optimize public information only: your site, service pages, practitioner profiles, Google Business Profile, reviews and third-party listings. We do not need access to patient records, booking systems or clinical systems, and we do not contact your patients. The Inbound program also includes DeliChat visitor identification and scoring, which is designed around B2B visitors. For a patient-facing site we would agree with you what, if anything, is switched on before launch, because it depends on the visitor’s jurisdiction and consent and on your own privacy obligations.
Why do AI assistants treat health questions differently?+
In our experience assistants tend to be more cautious on health topics: they add caveats, lean on established sources and are slower to name a clinical choice. Google likewise holds health content to a higher standard of evidence and trust. We do not publish data on how any specific assistant behaves on health queries. What it means in practice is that accuracy, credentials and consistent facts matter more for a healthcare practice than for most businesses, which is where our work concentrates.
What does AI SEO for dentists involve?+
For a dental practice it means a clear entity (the practice, its locations and its dentists), service pages for the treatments you offer written in the words patients use, clinician profiles with credentials, a complete Google Business Profile, consistent listings, and a review and reply approach that fits your regulator and privacy rules. The same approach applies to physiotherapy and specialist practices. As everywhere, the clinical content comes from your team.
We run several sites. Does this work for a healthcare group?+
Yes, and consistency across locations becomes the hardest part of the job: every site is a separate answer to a separate question. For a single practice or a handful in one area, see our AEO for local business page. For many locations under one brand, see our AEO for franchises page, which covers estate-wide listings and consistency. On the first call we tell you plainly which fits.
Does this meet healthcare advertising rules?+
Practice marketing is regulated, and the rules differ by country and by profession. In the UK, for example, regulators and standards bodies such as the GDC, the GMC and the ASA have advertising rules. In the US, state licensing boards and the FTC are relevant, and privacy rules apply to patient information. Check what applies to you with your regulator or a qualified advisor. This is general information, not legal advice. Everything we publish is approved by you first, so your own compliance process stays in control.
How do you measure whether it is working?+
We use the same audit method as our research: read the site, work out what the practice does in the words a patient would use, write buyer-intent queries, run each as a live AI search with your name left out, and record whether you were named, who was named instead and which sources were cited. We have run that on 217 established businesses across 12 industries, and healthcare is not one of them, so we publish no healthcare figures and make no claim about your sector. Our free AI visibility checker runs it on your own business.
How long does it take, and do you guarantee a recommendation?+
We do not guarantee that any AI assistant will recommend your practice, or any number of patients or inquiries. AI answers change from one run to the next. Expect early movement in AI answers from around month two, and a measured comparison against your baseline in the months after. Those are planning estimates, and timing depends on your site, specialty and area.
How much does it cost?+
AEO runs on our Inbound program: $2,500 a month on monthly billing with no long-term commitment, $6,000 a quarter or $18,000 a year when paid up front. Six months is what we recommend, not a requirement. Full detail is on our pricing page. On the first call we confirm the program fits your practice before any commitment, and we say so if it does not.
